Before you buy
Am I covered for DJ equipment hire?

Is DJ equipment covered under my wedding insurance policy?

It depends on what's been hired and how it's used. Section 9 of the policy covers accidental damage to Hired Equipment during your wedding event — but "Hired Equipment" is specifically defined as marquees, tents, gazebos, staging, flooring, chairs, tables, lighting, and similar ancillary equipment.

Audio and visual entertainment equipment is explicitly excluded from this definition, and the policy also excludes claims for "damage to audio and visual entertainment equipment" directly. As DJ equipment falls into that category, it would not be covered under Section 9.

For the full definitions and exclusions, we'd suggest reviewing the policy wording at weddinginsurance.com.au/policy. If you're unsure how your specific hire arrangements are affected, get in touch before your event.

How quickly can I get a quote?

Most couples receive an indicative quote in a few minutes online. Final cover depends on your wedding details and policy terms.

Is there an excess on claims?

Policies are structured with a $0 excess on covered events, subject to policy terms and individual assessment.

Read the PDS →
Who underwrites the policy?

Your policy is underwritten by Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s, led by ARCH Managing Agency Limited. Lloyd’s has been insuring specialist risks for centuries. Wedding Insurance Australia is a brand of Niche Insurance Pty Ltd, a Lloyd’s Coverholder. Full underwriting details, including syndicate numbers, appear in the footer of every page and in the PDS.

About Wedding Insurance →
What does wedding insurance actually cover?

Wedding Insurance AU covers the ten things couples worry about most: cancelling or postponing the wedding, rescheduling, a supplier going under, transport that fails, the dress or suit, the rings, the gifts, damage to hired equipment, COVID disruption, and support if the day can't go ahead. The PDS sets out the cover for each.

Get a quote →
What isn't covered?

The main exclusions are a change of heart, anything you knew about before buying that was likely to lead to a claim, costs you can recover from a supplier, declared pandemics, and wear and tear. COVID is covered only through the optional extension. Each cover page lists its own exclusions, and the PDS is the full record.

Who stands behind Wedding Insurance AU?

Wedding Insurance AU is a brand of Niche Insurance Pty Ltd, an Australian company holding an Australian Financial Services Licence and regulated by ASIC. Policies are underwritten by Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s, the specialist insurance market that has been covering unusual risks for centuries — so you deal with a local team while your cover sits with Lloyd’s.

Get a quote →
Is Wedding Insurance AU properly licensed?

Yes. Wedding Insurance AU is issued by an AFSL licence holder, regulated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. All policies are sold under Australian financial services law, which provides consumer protections including the right to escalate a complaint through the Australian Financial Complaints Authority.

Get a quote →
How do I choose the right level of cover?

Wedding Insurance AU offers four levels: Essentials, Classic, Signature, and Premier. Each carries different limits across every cover section. The quote engine compares the non-refundable wedding spend against the limits and shows the right fit side by side. As a guide, the level whose cancellation limit sits above the total non-refundable spend is usually the answer.

Get a quote →
Can I cancel my wedding insurance after buying it?

Yes. There's a 14-day cooling-off period required by Australian financial services law. Cancel inside the window and the full premium is refunded, less any non-refundable government charges. After that, a tiered refund applies: 50% to 30 days before the wedding, 25% if 14 to 29 days before, none if less than 14 days.

Get a quote →
When does cover start?

Cover begins the day your Certificate of Insurance is issued, and runs through to 24 hours after the wedding ends. Policies must be bought at least thirty days before the wedding. Most claim triggers happen in the run-up rather than on the day itself, so buying early extends the protection.

Group 4 — Specific situations

Get a quote →
Does Wedding Insurance AU cover destination weddings?

Yes. It covers weddings held in Australia or overseas, provided the destination isn't on a government 'Do Not Travel' advisory. Australian Resident eligibility applies. Destination weddings carry higher deposits and tighter timelines, so the Signature and Premier levels are often a better fit for the larger exposure.

Get a quote →
Is wedding insurance worth it for a small wedding?

A smaller wedding still has rings, attire, and a handful of key suppliers the day depends on. The Essentials and Classic levels carry cover sized for an intimate day, without paying for limits a smaller wedding won't use. The quote engine matches the non-refundable spend to the right level.

Cancelling & postponing
What happens if I have to cancel my wedding?

If the wedding is cancelled or postponed for a covered reason, Wedding Insurance AU provides cover for the non-refundable money already committed. That spans a family illness, a death, a venue closing its doors, severe weather, or a supplier failing to show. Cover limits scale across the four levels. The PDS lists every covered reason.

Learn more about cancellation cover →
Does it cover me if I just change my mind?

No, and it's worth being upfront about that. Cancellation cover is for events outside your control. A change of heart, or a voluntary decision not to go ahead, sits outside it. The covered reasons are set out in full in Section 1 of the PDS.

Learn more about cancellation cover →
What if bad weather forces us to cancel?

There's cover for cancellation caused by severe weather or a natural catastrophe, for instance where it stops you or at least half your guests reaching the venue. The exception is weather already being warned about publicly when you bought. That's why buying early matters.

Learn more about cancellation cover →
What if we need to postpone rather than cancel?

Rescheduling may be covered where policy conditions are met. Each claim is assessed individually against the PDS.

Learn more about cancellation cover →
When does the cover start?

Cover begins the day your Certificate of Insurance is issued and runs to 24 hours after the wedding. Most cancellation triggers happen in the run-up, not on the day itself, so the earlier you buy, the longer you're protected.

Learn more about cancellation cover →
How much notice is required?

Notice requirements depend on the reason for cancellation and your tier. Refer to your PDS section for cancellation terms.

Learn more about cancellation cover →
Does wedding insurance cover postponing to a new date?

Yes. If a covered event forces the wedding to move to a new date within ninety days, Wedding Insurance AU includes cover for the additional rescheduling costs. Re-deposits, supplier rebooking fees, and the difference a supplier charges for the new date all sit inside Section 2. No excess applies, and cover limits scale across the four levels.

Learn more about rescheduling cover →
How is this different from cancellation cover?

Cancellation cover (Section 1) is for non-refundable costs when the wedding can't go ahead at all. Rescheduling cover (Section 2) is for the extra cost of moving it to a new date instead. Rescheduling only triggers after a covered cancellation reason, so the two work as a pair.

Learn more about rescheduling cover →
How long do I have to set the new date?

The wedding needs to be rescheduled within ninety days of the original date for this cover to apply. Costs for the new date should be agreed in writing in advance.

Learn more about rescheduling cover →
Do I need a new policy for the new date?

Yes. Once the wedding is rescheduled, the original policy expires and no premium is returned. A new policy covers the new date.

Learn more about rescheduling cover →
If we move the wedding by a few weeks, is that still a reschedule claim?

Yes, if a covered event forces the date change and non-refundable costs arise because of that change. Every claim is assessed individually against the PDS.

How claims work →
Supplier problems
What if a wedding supplier goes out of business?

If a contracted supplier goes into administration, liquidation, or bankruptcy after a deposit is paid, Wedding Insurance AU includes cover for the lost deposit and the cost of arranging a replacement, up to the tier limit. A thirty-day waiting period applies from policy issue. The PDS names the supplier categories included.

Learn more about supplier cover →
Why is there a waiting period?

The thirty-day waiting period applies to failures that first occur after that window, which is why buying early matters. A supplier already in financial trouble when you buy isn't covered under this section.

Learn more about supplier cover →
Does it cover a supplier who just does a bad job?

No. This covers financial failure, meaning administration, liquidation, or bankruptcy, not a dispute over quality or a breach of contract. A written, signed contract has to be in place.

Learn more about supplier cover →
What if I don't have a written contract?

Then there's no cover for that supplier's failure. It's worth getting every booking in writing regardless, for this and for plenty of other reasons.

Learn more about supplier cover →
Does supplier cover include replacement costs on short notice?

It can include reasonable additional costs to secure alternatives when a listed supplier cannot deliver due to a covered event. Every claim is assessed individually against the PDS.

Learn more about supplier cover →
Does the hire company's insurance cover damage?

Their policy protects the hire company. Your liability for damage to hired items may be covered under your tier.

Learn more about hired equipment cover →
Does the policy cover damage to hired marquees or equipment?

Yes. Wedding Insurance AU includes cover for accidental loss or damage to hired equipment where the couple has accepted responsibility under a signed agreement. Marquees, tents, gazebos, staging, flooring, chairs, tables, and lighting are all included. Audio and visual entertainment equipment is excluded. Limits run from $1,000 on Essentials to $10,000 on Premier.

Learn more about hired equipment cover →
Does it cover the band's speakers or the DJ's gear?

No. Audio and visual entertainment equipment sits outside this section. Hired equipment cover applies to items like marquees, staging, flooring, lighting, and furniture you've hired and accepted responsibility for.

Learn more about hired equipment cover →
Do I need a signed agreement?

Yes. Cover applies where you've accepted responsibility for the equipment under a signed agreement. That's the document that makes you liable for damage, which is exactly the exposure this section covers.

Learn more about hired equipment cover →
Is damage during set-up or pack-down covered?

No. Claims arising from putting up or taking down the equipment are excluded. Cover applies to accidental loss or damage during the period of the wedding itself.

Learn more about hired equipment cover →
Does wedding car cover include the hire fee?

Cover focuses on additional replacement transport costs when the booked vehicle fails — not the original hire fee.

Learn more about transport cover →
Is wedding transport covered if it breaks down or doesn't turn up?

Yes. If a contracted hire vehicle fails to appear, breaks down, or has an accident on the wedding day, Wedding Insurance AU includes cover for replacement transport plus any non-refundable deposit on the original. Cover limits run from $1,500 on Essentials to $10,000 on Premier, with no excess on a covered claim.

Learn more about transport cover →
Does it cover a taxi or ride-share?

No. Transport cover applies to private hire cars and transport you've contracted for the day. Common carriers such as taxis, ride-share, buses, trains, aircraft, and vessels sit outside the definition of covered transport in the PDS.

Learn more about transport cover →
What if the company tells me beforehand they can't come?

That counts as advance notice, not a non-appearance, so it falls outside this section. Cover is for an unexpected failure on the day. A written agreement also needs to be in place for the booking.

Learn more about transport cover →
Do I need the booking in writing?

Yes. Transport cover applies where there's a written agreement for the wedding cars and transport. Without one, there's no cover for that booking under Section 4.

Learn more about transport cover →
Weather
What rainfall level triggers cover?

Defined measurable thresholds are set out in the PDS — not general inconvenience.

Learn more about weather cover →
Is an outdoor wedding covered for bad weather?

Outdoor weddings carry more weather exposure, and Wedding Insurance AU is built with that in mind. If severe weather, a natural catastrophe, or a venue becoming unsafe forces a cancellation or postponement, there's cover for the non-refundable costs. Damage to hired marquees and equipment is covered too. The PDS sets out the severe-weather triggers.

Learn more about weather cover →
What if rain is forecast and we cancel to be safe?

Cover applies to severe weather or a natural catastrophe that makes the venue unsafe or stops at least half your guests reaching it, not to rain alone. And it has to be unforeseen, so weather already being warned about publicly when you bought isn't covered. Choosing to cancel because rain is forecast wouldn't meet the covered reasons in Section 1.

Learn more about weather cover →
Is the marquee covered if it's damaged in a storm?

Accidental damage to a hired marquee or equipment is covered under Section 9, where you've accepted responsibility under a signed agreement, up to that tier's limit. That's separate from the cancellation cover for severe weather under Section 1.

Learn more about weather cover →
Why does buying early matter so much for weather?

Because cover is for unforeseen weather. Once a forecast or official warning is public, the weather is no longer unforeseen, so it falls outside the cover. Buying well ahead of the day protects the window before any warnings appear.

Learn more about weather cover →
Attire, rings & gifts
Is the bridesmaids' dress covered?

Wedding clothing for the couple and listed party attire may be covered per your tier and the PDS.

Learn more about attire cover →
Is the wedding dress covered if it's lost or damaged?

Yes. Wedding Insurance AU includes cover for a replacement of equal value if the dress, suit, or accessories are lost or stolen before the wedding. Damage during the wedding is covered up to fifty per cent of the original price if repair isn't economical. Alterations and rush fees are included. Limits run from $2,000 on Essentials to $20,000 on Premier.

Learn more about attire cover →
Does it cover the suit and accessories too?

Yes. Attire cover applies to the clothing, headwear, and shoes worn at the wedding by you or the attendants, including alteration and fitting fees. Watches, jewellery, and precious or semi-precious stones aren't included, and the rings are covered separately under Section 6.

Learn more about attire cover →
What if the dress is damaged on the day itself?

There's cover for repair. Where repair isn't possible or economical, there's cover for the market value, up to fifty per cent of the original purchase price, reflecting the difference in value between new and worn attire.

Learn more about attire cover →
Do I need to report a theft to the police?

Yes. For attire, a theft needs to be reported to the police as soon as reasonably practicable, and no later than three days after you discover the loss, for the claim to be considered.

Learn more about attire cover →
Are engagement rings covered?

Engagement rings typically need separate home contents insurance. Wedding ring cover applies around the ceremony period.

Learn more about rings cover →
Are wedding rings covered if they're lost or damaged?

Yes. Wedding Insurance AU includes cover for repair or replacement if the rings are lost, stolen, or damaged during the wedding or the seven days before it. Replacement is at full value, with no deduction for depreciation. Limits run from $2,000 on Essentials to $20,000 on Premier. Theft must be reported to the police within fourteen days.

Learn more about rings cover →
Is the engagement ring covered too?

Section 6 covers the rings exchanged at the wedding. If you're unsure whether a particular ring falls inside the cover, the PDS sets out the definition, and the team can talk it through before you buy.

Learn more about rings cover →
How long before the day does cover start for the rings?

Ring cover applies during the wedding and the seven days immediately before it, while the rings are with either partner, an attendant, or an immediate family member.

Learn more about rings cover →
Are cash wedding gifts covered?

No. Cover applies to physical gifts — cash and gift cards are not covered.

Learn more about gifts cover →
Are wedding gifts covered if they're stolen or damaged?

Yes. Wedding Insurance AU includes cover for wedding gifts damaged, lost, or stolen during the seven days before the wedding, at the wedding, in transit, or at home. The aggregate limit runs from $2,000 on Essentials to $16,000 on Premier, with a $500 per-item limit and a $500 money sub-limit. Theft must be reported within fourteen days.

Learn more about gifts cover →
Is cash covered, or just physical gifts?

Both. Money is covered up to a $500 limit, and includes cash, cheques, money orders, and gift cards with monetary value. Crypto currency is excluded. Physical gifts are covered up to $500 per item, within the tier's aggregate limit.

Learn more about gifts cover →
What's the per-item limit for?

The per-item limit caps how much applies to any single gift, at $500. The aggregate limit caps the total across all gifts, and scales by tier from $2,000 up to $16,000.

Read the PDS →
Where do the gifts need to be for cover to apply?

Cover applies in the seven days before the wedding, at the wedding, in transit between locations, or at your home. A theft from an unattended vehicle is only covered where the vehicle was locked and there are signs of forced entry.

Learn more about gifts cover →
Making a claim
Who handles the claims?

Claims under Wedding Insurance AU are handled by an Australian-based wedding insurance claims team, with years of local and global experience. There's no offshore call centre. The team reviews each claim against the PDS, requests the documentation needed, and works through it directly. No excess applies to any claim.

How claims work →
How soon do I need to report a claim?

As soon as reasonably practicable, and no later than thirty days after an event likely to give rise to a claim. Reporting late doesn't automatically invalidate a claim, but it can reduce what's payable if it causes prejudice, so early contact is best.

How claims work →
What evidence will I need?

It depends on the claim, but commonly: receipts and invoices, supplier contracts, bank or credit card statements, a medical certificate for illness or injury, and official notices for transport issues. Keep your original purchase invoices, as they validate the expenses you want to recover.

How claims work →
Is there an excess to pay?

No. Wedding Insurance AU carries $0 excess on every claim, every level, every cover section. There's nothing to pay before a claim is considered, and nothing deducted from a settlement.

How claims work →
How do I access counselling?

Where your tier includes emotional support, access follows a covered event and the process in your PDS.

Learn more about emotional support cover →
Does wedding insurance include support after a cancellation?

Yes. After a covered cancellation or postponement, Wedding Insurance AU includes cover for professional counselling for up to 180 days, up to the tier limit. It applies to either partner or an immediate family member directly affected. Psychologist and psychiatrist services are not covered. The PDS confirms which qualified practitioners qualify.

Learn more about emotional support cover →
Who does the counselling cover apply to?

It applies to you or an immediate family member directly affected by a covered cancellation or postponement. The cover is for the expenses of professional counselling for the emotional distress that follows.

Learn more about emotional support cover →
How long is the cover available for?

Cover applies to professional counselling within 180 days of the wedding being cancelled or postponed, up to your tier's limit.

Learn more about emotional support cover →
Does it cover seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist?

No. Psychologist and psychiatrist services sit outside this section. The cover is for professional counselling, and the PDS sets out the practitioners that qualify.

Learn more about emotional support cover →
COVID & illness
How much is the COVID add-on?

The COVID add-on is $200 in addition to your tier premium when selected at quote.

Learn more about COVID cover →
Does wedding insurance cover COVID?

COVID is covered through an optional extension added at the quote stage. Wedding Insurance AU's COVID extension includes cover for rescheduling due to a lockdown order, rescheduling if either partner or a relative is diagnosed within fourteen days, and cancellation if a relative dies from COVID within thirty days. The base policy excludes COVID; the extension is what brings it in.

Learn more about COVID cover →
How much does the COVID extension cost?

The COVID extension is a flat $200 add-on, applied to the tier premium at the quote stage. Cover under it runs from $3,000 on Essentials to $10,000 on Premier, with no excess.

Learn more about COVID cover →
What do I need to make a COVID claim?

For a sickness claim, a positive official test result from a recognised testing authority confirming the diagnosis. For a bereavement claim, the original death certificate confirming COVID-19 as the cause. The PDS sets out the conditions for each section.

How claims work →
Is COVID covered if I don't add the extension?

No. The base policy excludes COVID. Cover applies only where the additional COVID premium has been paid, as shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
