WEATHER COVER

Is an outdoor wedding covered for bad weather?

Outdoor weddings carry more weather exposure, and the cover is built with that in mind. Severe weather that forces a cancellation is a covered reason, and the marquee is covered too.

The short answer

Does wedding insurance cover bad weather?

Yes, within limits worth understanding. If severe weather or a natural catastrophe forces the wedding to be cancelled or postponed, that's a covered reason under Section 1, for instance where it stops you or at least half your guests reaching the venue, or makes the venue unsafe. The one exception is weather already being warned about publicly when you bought. Damage to a hired marquee is covered separately under Section 9.

And what isn't?

Not covered:

  • Weather or a natural catastrophe already being warned about publicly when you bought the policy. This is the key one for outdoor weddings.
  • A cancellation for a reason that isn't a covered Section 1 event.
  • Damage from atmospheric or climatic conditions to attire, rings, or gifts, other than during the wedding itself.

The takeaway: weather cover rewards buying early. Once a forecast or warning is public, weather is no longer an unforeseen event.
