What to know if you need to cancel your wedding

How cancellation cover protects your non-refundable deposits
Yes. If the wedding is cancelled or postponed for a covered reason, Wedding Insurance AU provides cover for the non-refundable money already committed. Covered reasons include a family illness, a death, the venue failing or closing, severe weather, and a supplier failing to appear. Cover scales across the four levels. Venue failure
If the booked venue can't hold the wedding through financial failure, severe physical damage from fire, weather or natural catastrophe, or closure by an authority over an issue at the site.
A supplier no-show
The total non-appearance of a booked and paid-for supplier, where it makes holding or continuing the ceremony or reception impossible.
Illness or injury
If you or an immediate family member can't attend, on a treating doctor's advice.
Bereavement
The death of you or an immediate family member before the day, where going ahead would be impossible or inappropriate.
Military posting
An unforeseen posting as a serving member of the Australian armed forces for unavoidable duty.
Redundancy
Your redundancy, or that of a close relative the wedding's finances depend on, where it qualifies under redundancy legislation.
Severe-weather access
If adverse weather or a natural catastrophe stops you, your parents, or at least half the guests reaching the venue.
Infectious disease at the venue
An outbreak forcing the venue to close under public-health guidelines, provided it isn't a declared pandemic or listed disease.

And what isn't?
The exclusions matter as much as the cover, so here they are.
Not covered:
- A change of heart, or a voluntary decision not to marry.
- Weather or a natural catastrophe already being warned about publicly when you bought.
- Anything you knew about before buying that was likely to lead to a claim.
- Costs you can recover from a supplier's refund, guarantee, or warranty.
- A declared pandemic or listed human disease. The optional COVID extension is separate.
- A wedding already prohibited by a regulation in force when you bought.
